Debunking the claim that “solar and wind are cheaper than fossil fuels”

If a company has a TV set that’s as good as others, but cheaper, they win by selling their cheaper TVs on the market. They don’t ask government to ban other TVs, to mandate their TV, or to give them hundreds of billions of dollars.

“We have been invaded”: Wind energy sacrifice zones in Åfjord Municipality and their implications for Norway

ABSTRACT. Following the “green” growth tradition, the construction of lower carbon energy (renewable energy) infrastructures, such as wind power, has gained prominence in Norway. This has led to indigenous Saami herders confronting pastureland dispossession, some citizens fearing the industrialization of nature, and municipal councils losing formal governance power in favor of national agencies and private-sector project developers—justified by the urgency of the climate crisis. The purpose of the paper is to explore how energy infrastructures aimed at decarbonization have led . . .

Mount Emerald, Queensland, Australia: time in 2022 at different output ranges

Steven Nowakowski of Rainforest Reserves Australia collected 2022 5-minute output data for the 180-MW Mount Emerald wind energy facility in Queensland, Australia. The average output was 26.8% of capacity - generating at or above that rate of 48.3 MW only 40% of the time. The median output was 18.1% of capacity (meaning that half the time it was generating less than 32.6 MW.

Energy development on your land? Don’t throw caution to the wind #AUS

With wind, solar and battery developments playing a critical role in achieving Australia’s renewable energy targets, landowners continue to be approached by energy proponents and developers across the country seeking to secure agreements to undertake energy developments on their land. It is all too easy for landowners to be dangerously distracted during negotiations by the returns promised by energy developers and the benefits associated with income diversification. However, an energy development is not a “set and forget” project. They are . . .
